Spark ARENA is full of life, energy and creativity so when the Arena approached Speedy Signs to rebrand from Vector to Spark ARENA, this needed to be reflected consistently throughout the project.


For a rebrand this size, it was important for the Spark Arena to hire signage experts with a known and trusted reputation. Having a national presence and proven corporate wayfinding and directional signage expertise were also conclusive factors in selecting a vendor. As New Zealand’s largest national signage network with offices across the country, and with a history of rolling out corporate branding, it became clear that Speedy Signs were a good fit.

The challenge of this project didn’t so much relate to which types of directional signage to use, but in executing brand consistency and quality output on a vast scale. Speedy Signs’ understanding of this helped to reassure that the project would be in safe and experienced hands. Additionally, being able to demonstrate true value for money and provide a full five-year warranty on everything produced, meant that Speedy Signs were able to cement their standing as the firm favourite to tackle the rebrand.


After Spark ARENA developed a memorable wayfinding strategy that both reflected the Arena’s outgoing brand image and enabled the Arena’s visitors to navigate their way through the venue seamlessly, it was time to focus on delivering aesthetic continuity.

Speedy Signs’ Craig Simmons explains: “Owing to the huge volume of signs commissioned, the challenge mostly concerned colour management. When rolling out corporate branding, it’s essential to meet all brand standards and visual guidelines – colour management is a large portion of this.”

Working closely with a specialist HP colour vendor, the aim was to match the signage colours to the Arena’s brand accurately. Craig Simmons adds that “to generate real quality, we needed to use powder coating which comes with a limited colour range. We therefore advised them to adapt their colour palette to match the coatings.” The result produced colours that exceeded all expectations, generating maximum impact and consistency.

In terms of execution, each signage area was broken down and completed one at a time. This meant that all restroom signs were completed first before moving onto a different batch, keeping the project focused, regimented and ensuring concentrated quality assurance.


A team of five Speedy specialists completed the project in just 8 days, meaning it was finished ahead of schedule and well within budget.
